A Unique & Historic Gathering Place
Smyth Chapel, a historic structure that dates back to 1892, can now be the place for you to host your meeting or special event.
A new addition to the building now houses a kitchen and two handicapped-accessible restrooms. The building now has air-conditioning and a new heating system, the parking area has been expanded and graded, and a new handicapped accessible ramp has been installed. The original floors have been beautifully refinished. We are now fully open and operational accepting rentals for all public and private events/gatherings. Please contact our program coordinator, Sally Morgan, [email protected] or call 276-695-9013 with questions about rentals and to receive a rental contract. |

Located on Smyth Chapel Road just minutes from the village of Emory, Virginia and Emory & Henry College, Smyth Chapel, a beacon of hope to the local community, has been standing proudly since 1892. This historic structure was in danger of being razed until a group of concerned citizens formed the Friends of Smyth Chapel, Inc. and charged themselves with saving one of the area’s excellent examples of rural church architecture. It commands a scenic spot and quiet place of reflection overlooking the surrounding countryside.
The Friends of Smyth Chapel mission is to restore, maintain, and keep available for the community and interested parties the Smyth Chapel building for uses such as: celebrations, community and educational gatherings, retreats, meetings and worship.
